Money is Like a Seed: You Can Eat it, Or Sow (Grow) It

Far too often I hear from people who say they want to buy this or that product but they don’t have any money for the purchase.

To this I say, it’s not true.

Money is like a seed. You can eat it, or sow it. If you eat it, it’s gone forever. If you sow it, it grows and you get more money.

So how does this work?

Eating money (seeds) means wasting it on unnecessary things. These are things that you don’t need and they won’t improve your home, life or business at all.

Think about this...what if, for the next month, you only bought things that were necessary. What difference would that make to your monthly budget? How many things would you have to stop buying?
  • Buying lunch at work
  • Takeaways
  • Expensive days out
  • Buying more clothes (as opposed to replacing what’s worn out)
  • Buying treats for you/your kids
  • Booze
  • Lottery tickets
  • Unnecessary grocery items - biscuits, chocolate, potato chips, processed foods

Look at it another way; if you had to sell everything you owned, how much would it actually be worth?

If you buy an outfit for $200, how much would it be worth if you wanted to sell it straight away without even wearing it and with the tags still attached? You’d find that you probably wouldn’t even be able to get half the cost of it back. You’d be lucky to sell it for 20 bucks.

Likewise, the fancy ornament you bought for $300, once you’ve made the purchase, it becomes practically worthless. Even cars, if bought new, depreciate in value straight away and are suddenly worth 30% less than the “new” price the minute you drive them off the car lot.

Naturally, there are things you must spend money on, like food, clothing, housing and furniture. If you’re clever with these things, everything you buy will be like sowing a seed because it will improve your health, your happiness, your physical abilities and your ability to work and earn money.  But even in these areas it’s all too easy to overspend.

There are so many people I know these days who have huge flat-screen TVs that are far too big for the room they’re in.

I see people queuing at the checkouts at the supermarket with trolleys laden with stodgy pasties, boxes of soft drink, huge bags of potato chips, ready cut salads, and dozens of tinned/package/frozen meals that would have cost up to 90% less if made fresh. And then after all that, they go home and throw out last week’s uneaten food to make room for the new food they may or may not eat, and then pick up the phone and order a takeaway.

Crazy.

All of us, even if we’re not as bad as that, are guilty of wasting money on things we don’t really need.

And if you keep on wasting money on things you don’t need, you’ll never have money for the things you do need like the ebook or downloadable course that can teach you how to make more money, market your website better or in some other way increase your earnings.

Or maybe you should buy a book on how to invest your money or save more or pay off your mortgage faster.

Just remember that money is like a seed.

You can eat it - waste it

Or

You can sow it - invest in things that will create more money or save you money, such as courses, ebooks, local college classes, seminars.

Stop spending money on things you don’t really need and instead spend more money on things that will help your business grow.

Be smart

Sow more seeds.
